2001 Meeting - New Orleans, LA

The TAOS Annual Meeting for 2001 took place in New Orleans, LA last month as a satellite function of American Academy of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Esen Akpek of Johns Hopkins Medical School and Dr. Robert Butner of the University of Texas, Houston were the guest speakers.  Drs. Akpek and Butner delivered very informative lectures on systemic disease-related scleritis and advances on ARMD treatment, respectively.  The social function was lively, primarily due to the Cajun cuisine.

Another highlight of the year for TAOS membership was Dr. Butner’s recognition by the American Academy of Ophthalmology.  Dr. Robert W. Butner, a member of the Board of Trustees of TAOS was honored with the Humanitarian Award of the Academy for his voluntary ophthalmology services around the world.  In addition to his work in Bosnia, Albania, Romania and Central Asian countries, Dr. Butner has been a long-standing friend of Turkish ophthalmology.  TAOS membership extends sincere congratulations and wishes him many more productive years in his charitable endeavors.
We look forward to seeing all of our existing members and many newcomers in Orlando next year.   The details of the meeting will be announced on our web page.
