The Turkish-American Ophthalmic Society, Inc. (TAOS) was founded in 1990 by a small group of Turkish and American doctors and in 1991 it was incorporated as a tax-exempt, non-profit educational organization in Atlanta, Georgia.  Charter members of TAOS were Dr. David C. Craig of Henderson, TX, Dr. Zeynel A. Karcioglu of New Orleans, LA, Dr. R. M. Sarper of Atlanta, GA and Dr. Murat A. Sunalp of Tulare, CA.
